2008 Masters World Schutzhund Tournament

Gert’s dog career startet in 1994, when he discovered the Schutzhund sport. Before this he had competed with a German Shorthair and a German Shepherd in the Belgian obedience program. His passion and good eye for helper work developed quickly, and in 1999 he started as a helper in KG Veerle, the most successful club in Belgium throughout the years. Here he has had the opportunity to work with Europe’s best handlers and dogs. He has done helper work for dogs like: Tom van het Leefdaalhof, Eros von der Mohnwiese, Task von Haus Milinda, Xino van Roy’s Hoeve, Zidane vom Haus Sevens, Utz vom haus Sevens, Zidane van het Leefdaalhof, Gringo von der Mohnwiese, Hasko von der Mohnwiese etc. Gert is still one of the helpers in this club. Over the years Gert has also done a lot of competition helper work; Belgian Championships, national selection trials, club championships, regional championships, international competitions and trials all over the world from Norway to the USA.

After many years as a helper, Gert desided that he wanted to be on the other side of the dog, and took up training with his own dogs. The last 3 years he has competed trails, regionals, nationals, selection trials and Interland Belgium-Netherlands.

His current dogs are Fifty van de Biezenhoeve and Camaro av Oddvarg, which will be his companion at the Masters.

Gert is married to Christine Sonberg, together they own and run Kennel van de Biezenhoeve (German Shepherd & Malinios) and Kennel Cymraeg Ci (Welsh Corgi Cardigan). They travel all over the world giving Shutzhund seminars.
