Kevin Lanouette

Highlights of his career

Kevin loves dogs and has been training them for more than 21 years. With hundreds of awards to his credit, Kevin wakes up in the morning thinking about training and how to continuously improve his craft…and he falls asleep the same way. This unrelenting dedication to bringing out the best in every canine endeavor is evidenced in his many successes.

Among his primary activities, Kevin trains sport and companion dogs, dogs that detect bombs and drugs, specializing in German Shepherds and Jack Russell Terriers. Nationwide he trains other dog breeds in his expansive clientele.

Born in Boston, Kevin now makes Chelmsford, Massachusetts his home. So German commands are spoken to the dogs with his Boston accent. Amazing!

Bringing his unique, no-nonsense blend of expertise, patience, instincts and passion for excellence, Kevin competes at the National level with his German Shepherds. To his credit, one of Kevin's dogs astonished an international audience at the World Championships for German Shepherd Dogs after he commanded the dog to run onto the field, grab a ‘bad guy’ and hang in the air by her teeth. What was so incredible? The dog wasn’t even a German Shepherd, but rather, his Jack Russell Terrier, Eliza!

From 1991-1995 Kevin apprenticed at Canine College in Boston, Massachusetts under the tutelage of owners and AKC judges Bruce and Karen Billings. Together they handled and trained German Shepherds and Rottweilers for confirmation and obedience.

Kevin then went to Canine Concepts in Springville, Alabama, where he trained extensively with patrol and narcotics dogs, and in the sport of Schutzhund (German for "protection dog"). Kevin also trained with search and rescue dogs at K-9 East in Boston, Massachusetts, and then used this training at North Carolina Outward Bound School.

Today Kevin actively breeds, raises, trains and competes around the world. As a principal of Abby Kennels, Kevin offers dog owners everything they need to confidently breed, raise, train, nurture, board and groom their companion at either the newly renovated Abby Kennel, or on location at his clients’ residences.

His Accomplishments

Kevin trained Colby, his German Shepherd, from a companion dog title to the level of

Schutzhund 3. Colby is one of the finest female sport dogs in the USA. Kevin and

Colby finish 17th out of 84 dogs in 2001 National Schutzhund Championships, scoring

96 points out of 100 in protection.

Dralion, Kevin’s male, was bred from his female Colby and Champ von Barenfang. Kevin

raised and trained Dralion to a Schutzhund 3 dog. Dralion and Kevin qualified for the

Schutzhund 3 National Championships in Reno NV.with Dralion scored 100-96-95.
